am i the only person who has day dreams about my favorite dance songs being played out on a dance floor on a night when i’m determined to get my groove on? beats spinning off the fingers of a dj and his vinyl (or his laptop) and beating me over the head blissfully while i let me feet do the talking.
tomorrow evening i’ll be seeing/dancing with Audion and Clark Warner at Le Poisson Rouge. matthew dear aka Audion aka Jabberjaw aka False aka Matthew Dears Big Hands, with his darker and heavier vision of an dance floor take over. his work is part of the sound that has been dominating my ipod since i’ve returned from berlin. the minimal electronic tech sounds have actually really kept my ears intrigued. it’s the kind of beat that sounds especially best with your eyes closed and fists in the air.
also on heavy rotation for chuckles and i are jesse rose, booka shade, moderat, trentemøller and claude vonstroke. i HIGHLY (and i mean high) recommend that you download both Rose and Vonstrokes BBC radio one essential mixes. they play tracks that might give you a boner on a dance floor. or is that just me again?
chuck and i will be checking out jesse rose on dec 8th at LOVE! can’t hide how excited i am for this! rose runs the berlin based labels Front Room Recordings and Made to Play and has residencies in berlin (at panorama bar) and london. he will be giving new york a dance floor werq out for one night only. his music thumps like no other. if i walk onto the dance floor and he plays ”mourning wood” “asided” or ”never ending” i will die and go to dance heaven.
i’ll leave you with clips of some of my personal favorites of this bunch.

it’s better that i believe
that it’s over,
waiting everyday for a line,
for a sign from you.
it’s a rollercoaster ride
of emotion
paralyzing me,
paralyzing me.
it’s better that we build
on our dreams in our own world,
than a bridge in between the two
that could never hold our weight,
that could never hold our weight,
that could never hold our weight.

decided to make a playlist that went against the grain with everything i normally listen to these days. in new york your soundtrack is usually as hectic and fast paced as your commute, so everything i listen to on my ipod is usually also appropriate on the dance floor. my ipod is filled with everything from mobb deep to phillip glass, and i thought it was time i payed more attention to the latter. this took hours and hours of patience to create. songs usually lose me after the three minute mark, but i forced myself to hear these songs, no matter how slow or lengthy, with new ears. the result, i think, is a mood the moves at a slightly slower pace, but still has tremendous energy. these are songs i’ve always loved but never make time to listen to. seems appropriate as fall speeds ahead, and winter is around the bend. STOP. hold it. hold it. you might want to sit and listen to this one.

Patiently Paced Vol.1
1. opening (live)- philip glass
2. your cloud- tori amos
3. parrallel lines- kings of convenience
4. our way to fall- yo la tengo
5. birds- electrelane
6. at the window (cinematic shades edit)- booka shade
7. cymbal rush- thom yorke
8. i’m not (phaseone remix)- panda bear
9. and then patterns- four tet
10. lover you should have come- jeff buckley
11. the rip- portishead
12. everywhere you turn- the bad plus
13. hot like fire (aaliyah cover)- the xx

So much has happened and nothing at all since the last time I checked in here. Summer has flown by. The insanity, fun & sun was at an all time high!!
I mean really, y’all, you have NO idea…
Anyway, Rico and I soaked up all that summer had to offer, and wanted to take that renewed energy and inspiration and use it to our advantage. Either apply it to the arts, our own projects or even just frequenting the galleries and museums of NYC. Well, also apply the goodness to our lives, because we met a lot of amazing people and saw a lot of great things. Not only did summer good times inspire us, but I’m pretty sure that we inspired summer good times for many others in New York and Berlin… International males
Some things I’ve found on the www, that caught my eye.

i don’t even have time to expand on this one…but i do so love it when divas of music talk shit about one another!! etta james ripped beyonce a new one …” but I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song — she’s going to get her ass whipped.”

and now roisin murphy has gone on record about lady gaga in the uk’s daily mail.
“She’s copied my style. I met her about a year ago before she got really big and I had no clue that this was all going to happen. She wasn’t wearing shoulder pads at the time, and I was…Lady Gaga is just a poor imitation of me. She has copied my style, she took my shoulder pads and all that. Mind you she doesn’t wear the bottom half!“
i’m with roisin on this one. i don’t hate gaga the way i initially did, but her “futuristic” look always looks like it was made at F.I.T. and in the latest issue of Vmag she swears that she’s new muse to Thierry Mugler. two words gaga: GET REAL!!!
you decide…

twinsies

really?

ummmmm

i repeat GET REAL!

What is it with the gays and their gadgets? Not that I’m mad or immune to the phenomenon of having what’s newest and next. It just never ends and WE always want MORE! I mean, the iphone has been a pretty genius gadget in my world and in the lives of so many others. And now there is a website devoted to gays and their iphones, and the pictures that they take of themselves.
http://guyswithiphones.com/
Check it out, it’s definitely not safe for work, lots of flesh and some full frontals going on, but overall filled with hotness and their iphones, the new man’s best friend..
Just what I need, another reason to spend countless hours online
