the 3rd part of a trio of mixes i made that require immediate attention! (i haven’t finished the 2nd mix yet…)

patiently paced: vol III

patiently paced: vol III

track number 9 was something i thought was the handsome boy modeling school track “the truth” featuring roisin murphy. it turned out to be the wrong track, but i liked the song enough to hold onto it. i unearthed the track a couple weeks ago and decided it fit nicely with these tunes. it might not attend handsome boy modeling school, but she’s real cute. ;-)

one of the tracks on here i’m really excited about is Jónsi’s “boy lilikoi”. this track nearly brings me to tears each time i hear it. good shit. very much looking forward to hearing what the singer of Sigur Rós has in store for us april 5th! his album is entitled “go” and was co produced by Nico Muhly, a classical wunderkind who has worked with the likes of Philip Glass, Björk and Antony & The Johnsons. he’ll be playing coachella which will feature a new band and a set designed by 59 productions, who work mostly on theatre works. it promises to be an amazing show and i will be there! (here’s a peak at what his stage is shaping up to look like.)

and the last track KILLS me. the proxy will also be at coachella (only 73 days away) normally i think their kind of sound is too intense for repeated listening, but i am obsessed with this track and want to hear it while i’m high in the desert.

Let’s talk cash money honey.  It makes the world go around.  And as much as we despise it and wish to do without it, we all wish we had more or could figure out ways to get our hands on more.

I’m trying my best these days to hold on to the cash I got, while hustling for new gigs.  It’s never an easy road to financial security, but I’ve got my game face on for 2010.  I guess this is what most people call, growing up.  Not being so frivolous with things.  Money being one.  Not buying every little thing I see and want.  Taking care of myself better.  Eating well and exercising.  Also being more conscientious of what I say and how I treat others.

As I write these things, they all seem so simple and commons sense filled.  I guess with the new year I always like to approach life with a benevolent disposition.  Be good and it will come back to you :)

The art today has nothing to do with my rant above, other than the fact it’s on the money…

There is an endless amount of user generated videos on the internet these days.  From youtube to vimeo to noob, and the countless other websites that cater to the short attention span that has engulfed the world.

So much of the content out there on the web is junk for sure.  Watching all these videos will rot your brain, but once in awhile there are few that catch my eye and make me want to share with others.

I assume this video comes from a French agency, because of the script at the end, but other than that I don’t know anything about it. The only other thing I do know is I find it to be pretty ingenious and has a great message!

I could not get it to embed properly but please just cut and paste the link below.  It’s totally worth it!

So, another year has begun, and it’s off to a great start I think.  I’m feeling rested, inspired and optimistic.  I am going to wring out every drop of fun and creativity in 2010 that I can!  To be creative, one must find inspiration and that can be found everywhere…  In a museum for sure.  In nature, which we probably don’t seek enough of.  Through friends, which mine are pretty awe inspiring.  Magazines, books, walking down the street, this list can go on forever.

With this blog, we like to give our own 2 cents worth of inspiring things we’ve found and borrowed from the web.  Today mine is in the form of a German artist (of course my obsession with all things German is boundless) Paul Wunderlich.  He is mostly know for his surrealist paintings, but he also uses his artistic mastery in sculpture, ceramics, and metal works.  It is exciting for me to see someone have such a repertoire of talents and ideas.  It could make me feel inadequate but, hey, if we all thought like this we’d be a sad bunch.  I like to be stimulated and think big, you know, why can’t I do more, use my own range of abilities to speak my own language of  craftmanship.

I guess with all this said, enough of the talky talky and more action satisfaction!

Enjoy 2010!

do you remember how much you loved timbaland when you first got your hands on aaliyah’s “one in a million” and ginuwine’s “the bachelor”. THAT was an exciting time in r&b. i reallllly miss that timbaland. he always used the most bizarre samples of children crying, birds chirping or godzilla shrieking. now you feature fall out boy, really tim??!  you, missy, aaliyah, ginuwine, magoo , mocha, nicole wray, shaunta, tweet and even jigga were making magic. just having a moment folks. sigh. r.i.p. aaliyah and r.i.p. yesterday’s r&b. things just ain’t the same.

am i the only person who has day dreams about my favorite dance songs being played out on a dance floor on a night when  i’m determined to get my groove on? beats spinning off the fingers of a dj and his vinyl (or his laptop) and beating me over the head blissfully while i let me feet do the talking.

tomorrow evening i’ll be seeing/dancing with Audion and Clark Warner at Le Poisson Rouge. matthew dear aka Audion aka Jabberjaw aka False aka Matthew Dears Big Hands, with his darker and heavier vision of  an dance floor take over. his work is part of the sound that has been dominating my ipod since i’ve returned from berlin. the minimal electronic tech sounds have actually really kept my ears intrigued. it’s the kind of beat that sounds especially best with your eyes closed and fists in the air.

also on heavy rotation for chuckles and i are jesse rose, booka shade, moderat, trentemøller and claude vonstroke. i HIGHLY (and i mean high) recommend that you download both Rose and Vonstrokes BBC radio one essential mixes. they play tracks that might give you a boner on a dance floor. or is that just me again?

chuck and i will be checking out jesse rose on dec 8th at LOVE! can’t hide how excited i am for this! rose runs the berlin based labels Front Room Recordings and Made to Play and has residencies in berlin (at panorama bar) and london. he will be  giving new york a dance floor werq out for one night only. his music thumps like no other. if i walk onto the dance floor and he plays  ”mourning wood” “asided” or  ”never ending” i will die and go to dance heaven.

i’ll leave you with clips of some of my personal favorites of this bunch.

it’s better that i believe

that it’s over,

waiting everyday for a line,

for a sign from you.

it’s a rollercoaster ride

of emotion

paralyzing me,

paralyzing me.

it’s better that we build

on our dreams in our own world,

than a bridge in between the two

that could never hold our weight,

that could never hold our weight,

that could never hold our weight.
